Three killed as jeep falls into Bhakra canal
Fatehgarh Sahib, Feb 12 (UNI) Three persons were killed after the jeep in which they were traveling fell into the Bhakra canal between Tohra and Chanarthal Kalan villages in the district this evening, police sources here said.
The police succeeded in recovering the body of one of the victims, who was identified as Malkit Singh, driver of the vehicle which was attached to the security of Bibi Joginder Kaur, widow of former SGPC president Jathedar Gurcharan Singh Tohra.
Police sources said that search was on to locate the other two victims, one of whom was a CRPF personnel, while the other was a resident of Tohra village. Divers have been pressed into service to locate the other two bodies.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that the driver probably lost control of the vehicle causing it to skid off the road and into the canal. Bibi Joginder Kaur was at her residence in Tohra village when the mishap occured.
