ECI to ensure voting rights for every citizen
Agartala, Feb 12 (UNI) The Election Commission today said all eligible voters would be allowed to exercise their franchise in the upcoming Tripura Assembly elections even if they did not have Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) but provided other genuine documents.
Taking to mediapersons here after a meeting the senior officials, Deputy Election Commissioner and in-charge of the state election department Raju Balakrishnan informed that the commission was aware about the incidents of EPIC-snatching and assured to make alternative arrangements for casting votes.
''We have issued orders for a thorough investigation into the alleged snatching of EPICs in some interior areas in the state and the concerned Superintendents of Police have been asked to submit the report soon,'' he said.
