Wording of "Stolen Generations" apology to be known on Tuesday

Melbourne, Feb.11 : The wording of the apology to be given by the Labour Government of Prime Minister Kevin Rudd to the "Stolen Generations" will be publicly released on Tuesday.

According to The Australian, Labor frontbencher Anthony Albanese has confirmed that the motion for a debate by Parliament will be formally lodged on Tuesday.

"We're getting close as I understand it. I'm not a party to those negotiations, but the wording I'm sure will be got right," Albanese told ABC Radio.

"We'll be giving formal notice of the motion on Tuesday, so not just the opposition, but everyone will get to see it in advance."

Liberal leader Brendan Nelson has urged Prime Minister Rudd to end the delay and release the wording of the apology.

Liberal frontbencher Peter said: "It's hard to believe that we are 48 hours away from the apology and Mr. Rudd still has not worked out the exact wording of the apology."

The Rudd government has made it clear that financial compensation will not be mentioned in the apology, Aboriginal groups have warned it is "part of forgiveness".
