Large crowd throng Sangam amidst high security cover

Allahabad, Feb 11 (UNI) Nearly 15 lakh devotees converged here to take holy dip at Sangam on the occasion of Basant Panchami today.

Braving the nipping cold wave, devotees thronged at Sangam, the confluence of rivers Ganga, Yammuna and mythical Saraswati, for ablusion.

In the wake of terrorist attacks, unprecedented security arrangements had been made.

A large number of Rapid Action Force (RAF) and civil police had been deployed on the mela premises to avoid any untoward incident.

''Nearly 15 lakh devotees have taken bath and this figure would increase till evening as crowd is still gathering to take holy dip on the auspicious day,'' ADM City Prabhat Kumar Sharma said.

So far no untoward incident had been reported, he added.
