Congress team demands CBI probe in Patan rape case

Ahmedabad, Feb 11 (UNI) A central Congress delegation, which was here on a fact-finding mission in connection with the Patan gangrape case of a student, has demanded a CBI inquiry into the incident saying that the state government has done nothing to provide justice.

The girl, a student of the Primary Teachers College at Patan, was allegedly gangraped by six of her teachers. Congress MPs Krishna Teerth and Prabha Thakur, who visited Patan and met the girl, her parents and some students at the Primary teachers college, alleged that steps taken by the state government in this case were nothing but an ''eyewash''.

The delegation also demanded protection for the victim and her family. They chided the state governement for announcing Rs 1 lakh compensation for the girl, saying this will not restore the girl's dignity.

The government should take responsibility of her education and ensure that she gets a job and an accomodation, the delegation has demanded.
