Chemical to prepare smack and heroin seized

Neemuch, MP, Feb 11 (UNI) Two people were arrested and 1,500 kg banned chemical acetic anhydride was seized from them in Sagar in Madhya Pradesh and Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh.

''On a tip-off, a narcotics department team seized 854.9 kg chemical from a godown in Sagar. On the basis of documents found from the godown, 640.700 kg chemical was seized from Lucknow,'' Central Narcotics Commissioner Jagjeet Pawdia told reporters here yesterday.

The raids were carried out during the past 15 days.

He said acetic anhydride is used in manufacturing smack and heroin. Its sale has been banned under the NDPS Act. The chemical could have been used in preparing 1,500 kg heroin.
