AIKM opposes caste based reservation

Sambalpur, Feb 11 (UNI) The All India Kayastha Mahasabha (AIKM) opposed the caste based reservation policy in the country.

Addressing the national convention of the AIKM, which concluded here yesterday, AIKM president Kailash Narayan Sarang said the caste based reservation during the last 60 years has only strengthened the vote bank politics.

The reservation to a particular segment will only weaken the unity of the country, he said, adding that the real benefit of reservation was not reaching the targeted people of SC/ST community.

If economic condition of the people would be taken as criteria for reservation, it would strengthen the country and its people, Mr Sarang said and suggested that there should be only one-time reservation for education, employment or promotion.

BJP MP Pramila Bohidar, who presided over the convention, appealed to the people to work for a better society with adequate care to the distressed people, particularly the women.

Over 600 delegates from Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh attended the convention.
