Tamil Nadu: 85 sovereign gold ornaments robbed
Dindigul, Tamil Nadu, Feb 11: Unidentified burglars struck at a jewellery shop and decamped with gold ornaments weighing 85 sovereigns, valued at Rs eight lakh, in the busy Ayyalur road here today.
Police said the culprits used a welding machine to cut the iron grill gate of the shop and gained entry by cutting a portion of another iron shutter. To cover up their operation, they parked a lorry in front of the shop. They decamped with gold ornaments, but did not touch the silver ornaments. The robbery was noticed by a passersby, who informed the police.
Senior police officials rushed to the spot along with finger print experts and sniffer dog.
A special police team was formed to nab the culprits.
