100 commercial diaries to be set up in Punjab
Patiala, Febr 11 (UNI) Punjab Cooperation Minister Kanwaljit Singh today said the Government has fixed the target to open 100 commercial dairies to increase milk production in the state.
Talking to mediapersons here, he said that more than 250 applications had been received in response to the target. As many as 29 commercial dairies had already been set up till date .
Capt Kanwaljit Singh said that almost 400 milking societies were associated with the Patiala plant and these societies were inspired to purchase a cow each month, thereby increasing milch cattle in the area.
He said that Cooperative Department had launched various schemes for promoting dairy, which included funding of commercial dairies by Cooperative Banks.
He said that Milkfed was holding a workshop with representative of National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), progressive dairy farmers and milk societies of Milkfed on February 25. An action plan would be chalked out at the workshop, which would be implemented immediately by the government, he added.
