More foreign poll observers to arrive in Pak next week

Karachi, Feb.10 : More foreign election observers are expected to arrive here next week to monitor the February 18 general elections.

According to the provincial election commission and government authorities, most will be short-term observers and will cover the polling.

The observers are coming from Canada, the Untied States and England. A group of European Union observers has been here since last December. Additionally, several teams of the Free and Fair Election Network, a local group funded by different countries, would also be engaged in the monitoring process.

Meanwhile, Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Amir Ali Ahmed has said that around 370 polling stations would be set up in the Pakistan capital.

He said that the Islamabad Capital Territory Administration and the police have finalised security arrangements to maintain the law and order situation during the elections.

Personnel of the Punjab Police, Rangers and Pakistan Army would be present to assist the Islamabad Police and the administration, he added.
