PMC accuses Pondy govt of 'protecting' official

Puducherry, Feb 10 (UNI) The Puducherry Munnetra Congress (PMC) founder-President P Kannan today criticised the Puducherry Government for its alleged attempt to "protect" a senior official, who is facing corruption charges.

Addressing a press conference here today, Mr Kannan said the CBI had sought the government's permission to register a case against PWD Chief Engineer C Anandane through a letter on October 13 last year.

He alleged that the government had not touched the letter for more than two months. It granted permission only after the intervention of top CBI officials and the Lt Governor.

The CBI had reportedly chargesheeted Mr Anandane, who applied for anticipatory bail.

If the government fail to give an explanation on the issue, the PMC would join hands with other organisations, to reveal several "secrets" pertaining to it, Mr Kannan added.
