JK: Winter vacation extended due to heavy snowfall

Srinagar, Feb 10: The authorities have decided to extend the winter vacation in all educational institutions up to the higher secondary level in the Kashmir valley and winter zones of Jammu division because of the heaviest snowfall in 20 years.

An official announcement said here today that educational institutions, which were scheduled to reopen on February 18, will remain closed till March 2.

Now these institutions will reopen on March 3 in the entire Kashmir division, excluding Ladakh region. Winter vacation in winter zones of Jammu region will also reopen on March 3, it said.

The order will remain applicable to all government recognised private institutions, it said.

The entire Kashmir valley and Jammu division witnessed the heaviest snowfall of 6 to 17 feet during the past four days, disrupting road communication, electricity and water supply in the majority of areas.
