Van operators protest demanding regularisation of school vans

New Delhi, Feb 9 (UNI) The Delhi school van operators today held a massive rally against the delay by the Government in regularising school vans operating in the city.

The rallyists, led by Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi legislative assembly Jagdish Mukhi, marched from the Ramlila Maidan and proceeded towards the Delhi Secretariat to submit a memorandum to Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit but were stooped by police at Shaheed Park.

Raising slogans against the Chief Minister and Transport Minister Haroon Yousuf, the protestors demanded that Delhi Government's Transport department clears various pending applications for regularisation of school vans at the earliest.

Addressing the protestors, Dr Jagdish Mukhi alleged that the van operators had to pay upto Rs 5000 as bribe to various agents to secure regularisation of their vans.

He demanded that the CNG kits to be installed in school vans be exempted from VAT just the way sales tax was waived on them during the conversion of diesel buses to CNG.

Dr Mukhi demanded that the vans installed with the standard LPG engine be allowed permission to instal CNG kit.

The rallyists later submitted a memorandum to state Transport Minister Haroon Yousuf.
