Scribes, social worker to enact Satyagraha March today
Tiruchirapalli, Feb 9 (UNI) Three Journalists from Belgium and a Chennai-based woman social worker and Consultant will re-enact the historic Vedaranyam Salt Satyagraha March from the Vedaranyam Salt Satyagraha Memorial here today.
The Journalists--Christophe Lambert, Sam Paret and Tine Desodt -- and social worker, Florina Benoit, would walk on the same route led by late C Rajagopalachari, affectionately called as Rajaji, with 100 Congress volunteers in April 1930. The yatra was expected to reach Vedaranyam by February 29.
The Vedaranyam March replicated the Dandhi March led by Mahatma Gandhi to defy the salt-tax levied by the British.
Mr Lambert said the main objective of their march was to realise the arduous journey on foot undertaken by the renowned leaders, despite a strict vigil on them by the then British regime.
''We will bring out a book on the importance of Vedaranyam March and reflect in it our current experience in free India,'' he added.
The Journalist said they would also create awareness during their campaign about women education and rights for girl children.
