PM cancels Vidarbha visit after Amte's demise
Nagpur, Feb 9: Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh today cancelled his visit to Vidarbha region of Maharashtra following the demise of noted social worker and Magsaysay Award winner Baba Amte.
Dr Singh would fly back straight to New Delhi from Pune, where was on a visit yesterday, official sources told to the sources. Mr Amte died at 'Anandwan' Ashram in Chandrapur district early this morning.
Mr Singh was to arrive at Gondia, today to attend a college annual day function and lay the foundation stone of the proposed Rajiv Gandhi National Flying Training Institute there, and also 1,980-MW super thermal power plant of the Adani Group in Tirora in the district.
