PKDA to regulate development around Vedant University

Puri, Feb 9 (UNI) The Puri Konark Development Authority(PKDA) will regulate all developmental activities in the proposed Vedanta University project and in 95 villages situated within five km radial distance from the boundary of the Vedanta Varsity.

Official sources today said the proposal to vest authority to the PKDA had already been approved by the State Housing and Urban Department, which had sought some minor details about the figures in the map of the area.

Under the Development Authority Act, populace living in the remote village areas would also come under the purview of the Act in which any development, including construction and lay-out of buildings in the area, would be governed by the Development Authority Act through the PKDA.

This had been prepared on the line of the MoU, signed between the state government and the Vednat University.

The PKDA, presently covering 22 villages located at the outskirts of the city along the Puri-Konark marine drive road, would look after about 19 sq km area covering 95 villages having a population over 90,000 apart from the University area.

The government's decision to regulate authority within the five km radius of the propose Vedanta University had triggered widespread resentment among the villagers living in the periphery of the Vedanta University area.
