London, Feb 8 : A selection of Pope John Paul II's words of wisdom will soon be seen on the mobile phones of devout Italian Roman Catholics, thanks to a new daily text message subscription offer.

Mobile phone service provider Vodafone Italia and Lux Vide, an Italian television production company, along with Joaquin Navarro Valls, who worked for 16 years as John Paul II's personal spokesman, are set to launch the service in late February.

The quotations will include perhaps John Paul II's most famous saying: "Don't be afraid. Open, open your doors wide to Christ."

At a cost of 25 euro cents for each message, admirers of John Paul II, who died in 2005, can receive one sms daily.

The quotations have been picked by Navarro Valls, who now works as a commentator on the Vatican.

Navarro Valls said the strength of John Paul II's message would encourage worshippers in their everyday lives.

"John Paul II had a great human message about Christian values to communicate to the world, and quite simply, this is what produced this phenomenon and the fascination that the public feels for him," the Telegraph quoted him, as saying.

Vittorio Veltroni, the head of Vodafone's multimedia marketing department said: "We discovered through running focus groups that our mobile phone users did not just want information, they were in need of some spiritual advice and moral sustenance, especially in these confused times."

Vodafone clients will also be able to receive sayings made famous by the likes of Confucius, the Dalai Lama, and Mahatma Gandhi.
