Railway revenue up 12.84 per cent

New Delhi, Feb 8 (UNI) Sustaining buoyancy in its net revenues, the Railways earned Rs. 57282.51 crore during April 2007-January this year as compared to Rs Rs. 50765.01 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 12.84 per cent.

The earnings from freight traffic went up from Rs. 34415.58 crore to Rs. 38747.90 crore during the period, showing an increase of 12.59 per cent.

The passenger revenue earnings during first ten months of the current fiscal were pegged at Rs. 16134.95 crore compared to Rs.

14126.97 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 14.21 per cent.

The revenue earnings from other coaching and sundry amounted to Rs.2399.66 crore compared to Rs. 2222.46 crore during the same period last year, showing an increase of 7.97 per cent.

The total approximate number of passengers booked during April 2007-January 2008 were 5559.87 million compared to 5267.44 million during the same period last year, showing an increase of 5.55 per cent.

In the suburban and non-suburban sectors, the number of passengers booked during April 2007- January 2008 were 3074.10 million and 2485.77 million compared to 2923.69 million and 2143.89 million during the same period last year, an increase of 5.14 per cent and 6.06 per cent respectively.
