MLC, 36 MPTCS held for attacking cops

Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, Feb 8 (UNI) Police arrested an MLC and 36 Mondal Parishat Territorial Constituency (MPTC) members, for allegedly attacking two police personnel during a dharna at collector's bungalow tonight.

As part of a state-wide agitation, MPTC members, along with Baburajendra Prasad, MLC, organised a seminar here demanding that the government devolve powers and grant funds to them, police said.

Later, they went to the collectorate to submit memorandum to Collector G Jayalakshmi. The agitators proceeded to collector's residence as she was not at the office and tried to enter the premises.

Two police personnel- a Sub-Inspector and a woman constable-- were injured in a scuffle with the agitators. They were admitted to Government Hospital here.

The MLC and other leaders were arrested. They would be produced before a court tomorrow, police added.
