Meghalaya Guv issues notification for Assembly polls
Shillong, Feb 08 (UNI) Meghalaya Governor S S Sidhu today issued a notification for filing nominations for the single phase of Meghalaya elections on March 3 to elect 60 members to the Assembly.
The current term of the Meghalaya Assembly ends on March 10.
The last date for filing nominations is February 15 and the last date of withdrawal is February 18.
Counting of votes will take place on March 7.
In the 60-member House, 55 seats are reserved for the Scheduled Tribes.
More than 12. 30 lakh voters are eligible to exercise their franchise.
The Election Commission has sanctioned 50 companies of additional central paramilitary forces for smooth conduct of the polls. Most of these forces will be deployed in areas classified as 'hyper sensitive' and 'sensitive'.
