January car sales accelerate in slow market

New Delhi, Feb 8: Car sales for the month of January 2008 increased to 113,899 units even as motorcycle sales continued to see reverses, clocking 481,267 units as compared to 560,056 units in the corresponding month previous year.

Total three-wheeler sales for the month of January 2008 decreased to 30,140 units as copmared to 35,525 units in the corresponding month last year. The appetite for new wheels remain dampened, with the Reserve Bank leaving interest rates on hold. Commercial vehicles saw sales slip to 26,143 units in January 2008 as compared to 28,548 units in the corresponding month last year.
