Haryana firm on privatisation policy in transport section
Ambala, Feb 8 (UNI) Haryana government will not work under pressure from the Roadways Workers Unions and would run the buses through drivers and conductors engaged from private companies, Transport Minister Mange Ram Gupta said here today.
While talking to mediapersons here, Mr Gupta said that some unions were blowing up the issue of privatisation out of proportion without sparing a thought for the transport department which was already running in to losses.
He said the new policy to engage private players had been drawn up to overcome the losses and when implemented, it would mark the beginning of privatisation in Haryana Roadways, being opposed by the employee unions since its initiation several years back.
The Minister said that to provide better transport facilities to the people, 500 new buses would be added in the fleet of the Transport Department. The sitting capacity in new buses will be of 45 seats instead of 52 keeping in view the comfort of the old people and ladies.
The process of recruitment of conductors and drivers was in progress, Mr Gupta said.
