Ex-MLA Hemachandran passes away
Chennai, Feb 8 (UNI) Veteran CPI(M) leader and former Member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly J Hemachandran died of cancer at a private hospital at Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, this evening.
He was 74 and a bachelor.
Mr Hemachandran, a CPI(M) State Secretariat member, had a tumour in his spinal cord, which was later diagnosed as cancerous.
An Advocate by profession, Mr Hemachandran had represented Thiruvattar constituency in the southernmost part of the state thrice from 1980-84, 1985-88 and 1999-2001.
An active unionist, he had worked for the cause of plantation workers and transport employees. He was the State unit President of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU).
