Congress cannot hide its failure on terrorism: BJP

New Delhi, Feb 8 (UNI) Describing the Congress comments on NDA's prime ministerial candidate L K Advani as 'baseless' and 'amusing', the BJP today said it would not help the Congress to "gloss over its dismal record'' in handling the terrorist menace in the country.

It was in the Congress-led UPA regime that terrorism had not only grown, consolidated but also spread over various parts of the country, party spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad said, holding the more than fifty-year rule of the congress since independence responsible for more than 70,000 terrorist killings.

While the situation in Jammu and Kashmir had worsened, north- eastern states were in turmoil with anti-India sentiments and naxalite problem had acquired menacing proportions, he claimed.

Taking to task the Congress over Afzal Guru's conviction, the party said it was nothing but "lack of conviction" and "vote bank policy" that the UPA cabinet did not decide on the mercy petition for over one and a half years of a condemned prisoner for "waging a war" against the State.
