Come forward to save democracy: Mulayam
Lucknow, Feb 8 (UNI) Samajwadi Party (SP) chief and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today called upon all those who believe in democracy to come forward and save it from the hands of ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) government in the state.
''The present Mayawati regime is adversely affecting the democracy...the people, who believe in democracy, are an inspiration for today's youth. The youth have learned to raise their voice against injustice from them only, '' he said, addressing newsmen here today.
''The youth are facing the police ''lathi and goli'' by protesting against any injustice on streets...the Mayawati government is trying to suppress their voices by applying police force,'' the SP leader charged.
Mayawati has affected democracy by putting a ban on the student union election, he maintained, adding ''she was busy trapping rival political leaders in fake cases.'' ''The pension of the such fighters would be raised to Rs 5,000 per month , if the SP comes to power in the state,'' Mr Yadav said, adding they would be provided all facilities provided to freedom fighters.
Besides, all the people welfare schemes that were dumped by the present regime would be restarted, the SP chief asserted.
