Sand lorry runs over student, sparks protests
Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu, Feb 7 (UNI) A 13-year-old student was mowed down by a speeding sand lorry, sparking protests by the locals who staged a road roko demanding a ban on such vehicles.
Police said Ahmed Ali of Udankudi Pudumanai was returning home after lunch when the lorry belonging to a private firm crushed him to death.
Following this, as many as 1,000 angry school students and locals gathered at the scene of the crime and smashed the lorry. They also held a road roko. Around 300 shops downed the shutters to protest the incident.
