Mercury drops to 6.4 degrees C in Delhi

New Delhi, Feb 7 (UNI) After a rise in temperature over the past few days, indicating perhaps that chill could be on its way out, the mercury in the Capital today dropped sharply to 6.4 degrees, three degrees below normal.

Though weatherman said the cold wave sweeping Delhi over the past week was over, the sharp drop in minimum temperature to 6.4 degrees C from 8.8 degrees yesterday, brought some chill in the air.

The Weatherman attributed the drop in mercury to the absence of the thick cloud cover which had caused a rise in temperatures in the past two days.

Meanwhile, after a dense fog yesterday which plummeted visibility levels and caused flight delays, near normal visibility levels were observed in Delhi at 1000m.

There could be a slight increase in minimum temperature tomorrow with the weatherman forecasting a rise to seven degrees.

The Met office has forecast a partly cloudy sky in Delhi during the next 24 hours with a possibility of slight mist in the morning.
