Govt confident on 9% growth rate in 2007-08

New Delhi, Feb 7 (UNI) The government today said it is confident of touching a growth rate of nine per cent in 2007-08.

Finance Minister P Chidambaram said he is hopeful that the growth rate will be close to nine per cent in the current fiscal, after Central Statistical Organisation (CSO) estimated the country's growth at 8.7 per cent for the year.

''There is some disappointment, but I am not too despondent.

I am reasonably confident these numbers can only move upwards,'' he told reporters.
