Brown Sugar worth Rs 90 lakhs seized

Belgaum, Feb 7 (UNI) Belgaum police today seized 570 gram Brown Sugar worth about Rs 90 lakhs and arrested three persons in this connection.

Superintendent of Police Hemant Nimbalkar told newsmen here that on receiving information a trap was laid and the culprits were arrested at the Central Busstand.

The arrested were identifed as Elengbum Biswanath Singh alias Radhesham Singh (28) of Manipur, Tombram Suvaschandrasingh, who is working as Nurse in Army and is currently on leave and Nandakishor Narayan Majagaonkar (26) of Joida in Karwar, Karnataka.

He said that Biswanath Singh and Radhesham Singh had brought the consignment from Dehli-Puna route to Belgaum and they were supposed to deliver it to Nandakishor Majagaonkar at Belgaum for 90 lakh rupees.

One more person Ramesh Narayan Sawant of Jagalbet, Joida of Karwar Dist is involved in the case. He is working for Army Dental Corps, Rajasthan who introduced Biswanath Singh to Nandakishor and fixed the delivery point at Belgaum. He is yet to be arrested Mr Nimbalkar said that Nandakishor was planning to sell the drug at Goa.

Replying to a question, Mr Nimbalkar clarified that Belgaum is not becoming mafia hub or consumer point but is only a transit point of drugs.
