9 lose eye sight in eye camp in Madhya Pradesh

Seoni (MP), Feb 7: Nine people among a total of 35 patients operated upon at a special eye camp organised by the Mission Hospital at Lakhnadon in Madhya Pradesh's Seoni district lost their eye sight and they were being treated at a private hospital at Nagpur, official sources said today.

A high-level team set up by Public Health Commissioner has been deputed to probe into the incident after the district authorities submitted a report to the state government, District Collector P Narahari said.

As many as 35 people were operated upon by a team led by Dr David of Champa at the eye camp organised on January 28 by the Lakhnadon Mission Hospital, district's Chief Medical Officer Dr J P Verma said, adding the Health department was not intimated about the camp. Nine patients reported post-operative complications and loss of eye sight. They were shifted to a private hospital at Nagpur on February 4, Dr Verma added.

The state government has taken a serious note of the developments and a high-level team will probe into the incident, Mr Narhari said.
