VP to lay foundation for Stem Cells Research Centre

Hyderabad, Feb 6 (UNI) Vice-President Mohammed Hamid Ansari will lay the foundation stone for the proposed Stem Cells Research and Therapy Centre, part of the Centre for Stem Cells Sciences (CSCS) here tomorrow.

The state-of-the-art Research and Therapy Centre would be set up with a cumulative investment of Rs 150 crore in three phases.

CSCS, formerly known as Centre for Liver Research and Diagnostics (CLRD), was established by Prof C M Habibullah and a group of scientists interested in stem cells.

CSCS' scientists have been doing researche related to cell, molecular biology, stem cell research and therapy.

''CSCS has a proven track record in this area and its scientists are well known for their success in treating liver diseases, using stem cell-based therapies,'' Prof Habibullah told reporters here today.

''The primary object of CSCS unit is to carry out extensive work at both the basic and applied aspects in Heptology and Digestive Sciences,'' he added.
