Russian professor ''smitten'' by Tamil lanuage
Tiruchirapalli, Feb 6 (UNI) Alexander M Dubianski, a Professor of Tamil at the Moscow University in Russia , has been attracting a lot of audience comprising students of Tamil Literature at the Bharathidasan University here.
His presentation of verses from Sangam poetry has been drawing the students to his talks.
Prof. Alexander had evinced interest in learning Tamil in 1965, when 'Thirukkural' and 'Silappadhikaram', the two famous works in Tamil literatrue, were first translated into Russian language. After he began his tryst with Tamil, he has been referring to it as a ''language of knowledge'' with vast scope for research. It is a language through which deep thoughts could be expressed effectively, says Prof. Alexander, who had himself translated Sangam literature later in 1969.
Along with five students of his, he had visited Tamil Nadu last year also to have a feel of the Tamil culture and its rich traditions, he said.
