Police face heat from administration for inaction
Mumbai, Feb 6 (UNI) Maharashtra Government today suspended two police officials and instituted a department inquiry against an ACP for dereliction of duty when activists of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) went on a rampage assaulting North Indians in the city recently.
Police Inspector Motiram Kadam and Police Sub-Inspector Deepak Pawar have been suspended and a department inquiry has been instituted against ACP Balkrishna Bhange. All the three are attached to the Shivaji Park police station, a Home Department spokesman said.
Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil had yesterday announced that strict action would be taken against police officials who fail to act against the rampaging mob, which attacked Hindi speaking hawkers and taxi drivers in the Shivaji Park area on Sunday.
