HC grants bail to HCL Chairman's wife

Chennai, Feb 6 (UNI) The Madras High Court today granted bail to M Rajeswari, the wife of HCL Chairman Shivnadar, in a SST Prevention of Atrocities Act.

M Rajeswari alias Easvari, in her bail petition said that she was arrested by the Esplanade police inspector of Chennai on January 28, in front of the Family Court at Madurai, for an alleged offence under Sections 341, 323, 506(i) of IPC and under 3(1)(X) of SST Prevention of Atrocities Act, based on the complaints preferred by one Lakshmi, a social worker.

Ms Rajeswari submitted that the entire case was fabricated and instigated by her husband's relatives, in order to counter the legal proceedings filed by her against her husband in the Family Court, Madurai.

She had no personal knowledge about the defacto complainant and claimed that the provision of the SCST Prevention of Atrocities Act was misused with the help of high police officials.

Turning down the plea, submitted by the prosecution to take her into police custody for further inquiry, Justice T Sudanthiram directed her to appear before the Esplanade police daily and sign until further orders were given.

Earlier, the Principal Sessions Judge, Chennai had dismissed her bail application on February one.
