Kolhapur traders observe bandh, demand octroi abolition
Kolhapur, Feb 5 (UNI) Traders here observed a ''bandh'' today to press for the demand of abolishing octroi in Maharashtra.
The ''bandh'' was called by the Kolhapur Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI).
The traders gathered at the city's Bindu Chowk and then marched through the main streets to the collector's office while raising slogans en route in support of their demand.
The agitation was led by KCCI president Anant Mane. A delagtion later met district collector Pravin Darade and submitted a memorandum.
Mr Mane, while talking to reporters, claimed the ''bandh'' was total. He said the traders will intensify their agitation and will bring goods into the city without paying octroi.
Similar ''bandh'' was also observed by traders in the jurisdiction of the Sangli-Miraj-Kupwad Municipal Corporation.
