Industries to adopt cleaner technologies

Hyderabad, Feb 5 (UNI) Industries in Patancheru area will adopt cleaner technologies to reduce emissions and improve environmental status.

In his inaugural address at a seminar on 'Environmental Technology for Sustainable Urban Development', jointly organised by the CII-Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre and Swedish Trade Council here today, Swedish Environment Minister Andreas Carlgren expressed his concern over climate change and various problems related to urbanisation.

A partnership agreement for Capacity Building on Cleaner Production in Hyderabad region was signed between Swedish Environmental Research Institute (IVL), Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Environment Protection Training and Research Institute (EPTRI) during the seminar.

The objective of the project was to transfer knowledge within the field of Cleaner Production to Indian Industry.

Highlighting the initiatives by the Swedish Government towards reducing green house gas emission, he said the agreement would facilitate cooperation in various sectors in both the countries.

State Forests, Environment, Science and Technology Minister Vijayarama Raju Satrucharla, who was present at the seminar, cited some of the sustainable initiatives adopted in Andhra Pradesh, including City Development Strategies (CDS), Green Hyderabad Environment Programme (GHEP), Andhra Pradesh Urban Services for Poor Project (APUSP) and Multi Modal Transport System (MMTS).
