Haryana govt includes SC's, BC's in Ambedkar scholarship
Chandigarh, Feb 5 (UNI) The Haryana Government has widened the scope of Dr Ambedkar Meritorious Student Scheme to give scholarships to students belonging to Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes.
While stating this today Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Kartar Devi said that now 5000 scholarships would be given to students belonging to Scheduled Castes instead of 2000 earlier. Apart from the students belonging to Block -A of Backward Classes, those of Block-B would also be eligible to get the scholarships under the scheme.
She said that all students belonging to Scheduled Castes and Block-A and B of Backward Classes, studying in Polytechnics and Industrial Training and Vocational Education Institutions would also be eligible for the scholarships.
Mrs Kartar Devi said that only those students would be eligible for the scholarship who are domicile of Haryana, belonged to any of the Scheduled Castes of the State or Block-A and B of Backward Classes and have obtained a minimum of 60 per cent marks in matriculation examination. Scholarship would be given on the basis of merit, she added.
She said that the scholarship would be given at a rate of Rs 1000 per month for 10 months in a year. Those who were getting scholarships under other general schemes, would also be eligible under this scheme.
Those who have been sanctioned scholarship in 10+1, would be entitled to get scholarship after getting admission in 10+2.
