Gujarat Governor advocates need to change Education System
Rajkot, Feb 5 (UNI) Gujarat Governor Naval Kishore Sharma today stressed the need for a change in the Education System to enable the students to become globally competitive.
Speaking at the 42nd convocation function of the Saurashtra University here, the Governor said, ''We are living in an era of globalisation where there is cut-throat competition. It is just the performance which matters now and not degrees.'' Mr Sharma pointed out that in India there are about 40 lakh graduates and post-graduates who are unemployed. It is high time now to change the education system in such a way that students can perform in the competition of knowledge. The 21st century is the century of knowledge, he stressed.
Earlier, Gujarat Higher Education Minister Dr Mayaben Kodnani said the nation's future is in the hands of the youth and they should dedicate their services to the society.
On the occasion, the Governor presented gold medals to the meritorious students and in all, 45,117 students were conferred with degrees.
