Couple alleges mental harassment by Baba Ramdev's trust

Nagpur, Feb 5 (UNI) An Ayurveda practitioner couple has charged the Divya Yog Mandir Trust, headed by noted Yoga expert Baba Ramdev, with mental harassment.

Speaking to newspersons here yesterday, Dr Prem Lal Tiwari and his wife Dr Deepa Tiwari said they had been abruptly transferred to Hubli in Karnataka after working for barely four weeks at a clinic in Nagpur.

The Trust did not issue any written transfer orders, and officials maintained these would be given only when the couple reached Hubli adding that the clinic operator, identified as Yashpal Arya, had terminated their services last week, saying they were following the instructions from the Trust's officials in Haridwar.

''We had jobs in hospitals in Jabalpur. Besides, we also had a decent private practice there. We gave up both and shifted to Nagpur at great financial cost because we honour Baba Ramdev,'' Dr Prem Lal and Dr Deepa said. However, unscrupulous elements around Baba Ramdev were following a different agenda and were putting pressure on practitioners in clinics all over the country to increase the sale of medicines manufactured by the Trust, they alleged.

''A patient cannot be treated without a proper examination and diagnosis, but we were repeatedly told to examine at least 100 patients every day, which is not possible. This is probably the reason they want us out,'' they said.

Baba Ramdev himself had been inaccessible, they alleged. Dr Prem Lal said he had done his BAMS from Bhopal in 1999, while Dr Deepa said she had passed hers in 2002 from Rewa (Madhya Pradesh). The couple claimed they were recruited on December 9, 2007, and underwent a month's training at Haridwar before joining the loal clinic.
