Congress slips into poll mode, to highlight UPA's achievements
New Delhi, Feb 5 (UNI) In a sign that the party is getting into election gear, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) has finalised a series of programmes from April one to create awareness among the people about the "good work" done by the Manmohan Singh government.
The Publicity Committee of the AICC today gave shape to the programme and sent it to Congress President Sonia Gandhi for her approval.
"The Congress has to build a live relationship with the people. We will talk everything to the people,'' AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh told mediapersons after the meeting of the Publicity Committee.
He said state-level conventions would be held in tribal belts to highlight the salient aspects of the Tribal bill. The idea was to exert pressure on the state governments to distribute pattayams to tribal settlers.
This would be followed by district-level public rallies throughout the country to sensitise the people about the benefits of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA).
Mr Singh said state-level public rallies would also be organised to put before the people the achievement of the UPA government, highlight the impact that its flagship programmes like the NREGA, Right to Information Act, Urban Renewal Mission, National Health Mission had created on the society and expose the "double speak" of the Opposition BJP.
