ASDC welcomes Centre's process for a state

Guwahati, Feb 5 (UNI) The ASDC, DSU and KSA and other organisations of NC Hills and Karbi Anglong districts have welcomed the Centre's process for formation of the proposed State Reorganisation Commisstion (SRC) for creation of a smaller state within the Indian union.

The Autonomous State Demand Committee(ASDC), Dimasa Students' Union (DSU) and Karbi Students' Association (KSA) and other organisations have been spearheading democratic movement for creation of an autonomous state under the provision of Article 244 (A) of the Indian constitution comprising the two hill districts of North Cachar hill and Karbi Anglong in the state, a statement issued today said.

A joint delegation comprising all the organisations left for New Delhi today to hold talks with Union Home minister Shivraj Patil to press for demand for inclusion of North Cachar Hills and Karbi Anglong in the terms of reference of the proposed SRC.

The organisations said it was a good action of the Centre that it had created a number of small states in the North Eastern region under the reorganisation Act 1971.
