Verdict in Ajit Sarkar murder case on Feb 14

Patna, Feb 4(UNI) A local court today reserved its verdict in the Ajit Sarkar murder case and fixed Feburary 14 as the next date for its pronouncement.

The court of Additional district and sessions judge B M Srivastav reserved its verdict after hearing the final arguments.

Special public prosecutor Rakesh Kumar Sinha argued for prosecution while renowned lawyer Majid Memon appeared in defence of the accused.

During the trial, altogether 61 witnesses were produced by the CBI in support of its case while 27 witnesses were produced by the accused in their defence.

It is to be noted that CPM leader and former MLA Ajit Sarkar was shot dead in Purnea on June 14, 1998. RJD MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, former MLA from Govindganj Rajan Tiwari and one Anil Yadav are among the accused in this case.

Pappu Yadav is currently lodged in Tihar Jail in New Delhi in connection with the case on the Supreme Court's directive.
