Seized chicken culled in Manipur

Imphal, Feb 4: The veterinary officials in Manipur today culled about 6120 chicken, which were being illegally imported into the state from neighbouring states.

Officials said the chicks were seized yesterday at NH 53 near Patsoi in Imphal West.

The state had already imposed a ban on import of poultry products into the state in the wake of the outbreak of avian flu in West Bengal on January 15.

Seven migratory birds, were also reported dead at Sekmai in Imphal West earlier. However, no death has been reported at Loktak lake, where large numbers of migratory birds come during winter.
