Relief for rain-affected crops in Tamil Nadu

Karur (Tamil Nadu), Feb 4: The Tamil Nadu Government has sanctioned a relief of Rs 5,000 for an acre of wetland and Rs 2,000 an acre of dryland crops damaged in the December rainfall.

In a press release here today,District Collector T N Venkatesh said paddy, sugarcane, sunflower and coconut raised on around 356.39 hectare suffered damage to the extent of 50 to 100 per cent.

He said 8.38 hectares in Somur, Koyampalli, Thottakurichi and Nerur Villages in Karur Taluk were affected and Rs 33,883 disbursed to 26 farmers.

In Kulithalai, K Pettai, Rajendiram, Vaiganallur, Kadambarkoil, Kumaramangalam, Manathattai, Marudur, Nangavaram, Suriyanur and Neithlaur Villages in Kulithalai Taluk, crops on 333.04 hectare were damaged and Rs 7,07,812 disbursed as compensation to 800 farmers.

In Krishnarayapuram Taluk, a total of 13.27 hectare at Renganathapuram were damaged and 32 farmers given compensation of Rs 53,080.
