NREGS phase-III to be implemented from April: Minister

Visakhapatnam, Feb 4 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Commercial Taxes Minister K Ramakrishna today said phase three of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) would be implemented in Krishna, West Godavari and Visakhapatnam districts from April one.

Addressing a press conference here, he said the scheme provided guaranteed 100 days of employment in a financial year to every rural household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual works.

The enrolment of wage seekers was on in various mandals, after which they would be provided job cards and smart cards for payment of wages. Three lakh households have applied for job cards in the district and 6.23 lakh wage seekers have been identified. The estimated labour budget to meet the labour demand during the year 2008-09 in the district would be Rs 390 crore, he added.
