Ganga Expressway an unscientific venture: BJP
Lucknow, Feb 4 (UNI) Senior BJP leader and former Uttar Pradesh minister Om Prakash Singh condemned the Ganga expressway project as unscientific and disastrous.
Mr Singh said the project's credentials had been tested on scientific grounds by Ganga Laboratory scientists.
Ganga Laboratory was a brain child of Kashi Hindu University Civil Engineering Department, Varanasi, which was established in 1985 to study every detailed and peculier aspect of river Ganga.
Challenging the government's decision, Ganga Laboratory founder and coordinator Prof U K Chaudhary had declared Ganga expressway as hazardous and said it would destroy the Ganga basin's big fertile land, Mr Singh asserted.
Prof Chaudhary and his team concluded that the project would do great dammage to the environment. It will increase pollution and create flood like situation, Mr Singh added.
The BJP leader further blamed the government for not seeking prior permission of scientists, environmentalists, flood and earth quake detectors and ministry of environment, before initiating the project.
A letter in this concern had been written to the prominent party leaders for their kind participation in healping to abort the disastrous project, he apprised.
