Mah CM asks DGP, Police Commissioner to probe violence
Mumbai, Feb 3 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh tonight directed the State Director General of Police (DGP) P S Pasricha and Mumbai Police Commissioner D N Jadhav to probe the violence that erupted in the state following Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray's remarks against the North Indian community.
''Violence against any community will not be tolerated, be it migrants or any other. And if anybody indulges in such acts, strict action will be taken against the culprits, whosoever they are,'' Mr Deshmukh said here.
Following the Chief Minister's directives, police swung into action and arrested 15 MNS workers, allegedly in connection with the assault on a migrant taxi driver at Dadar in Central Mumbai this evening.
An emergency Cabinet meeting is likely to be convened tomorrow to discuss the developments in the wake of the Raj Thackeray's alleged remarks against the North Indian commuity in general and Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan in particular, Mantralya officials said.
