Two years imprisonment for producing fake documents

New Delhi, Feb 2 (UNI) A local court sentenced a person to two years imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on him for taking up employment with forged certificates.

Sher Singh, a graduate from Delhi College of Engineering had sought employment with National Physical Laboratory as a scientist claiming to be belonging to the Schedule Caste category.

He was allegedly selected as a scientist as he was the only candidate who had applied for the post. During the trial, Singh could not produce the certificates which he had "submitted" before the employer.

Additional Chief Metropolitian Magistrate Kanwaljit Arora found the photocopy of the certificates to be a forged and held him guilty of cheating and forgery.

In 2005, the CBI had registered a case on the directions of Delhi High Court following a petition filed before it that several people misuse the benefits provided by the government to the Schedule Tribes by claiming themselves to be members of backward castes.
