Undertrial attempts suicide in prison

Hoshiarpur, Feb 1 (UNI) An undertrial at the District Jail here attempted to commit suicide by hitting his head against the iron bars of a barrack yesterday, prison sources today stated.

The sources said that the guards on duty immediately rushed to the barrack and took control of the undertrial, identified as Rulda Ram of Chuharwali village in Jalandhar district.

According to the jail sources, Rulda Ram was transferred from Central Jail, Jalandhar to the District Jail here on January 22. The jail authorities got him medically examined after the incident.

On the directions of the jail officials, the city police has booked Rulda Ram under section 309 of the IPC.
