Toll mounts to 24 in spurious liqour case, 3 held
Mumbai, Feb 1 (UNI) The toll in the spurious liqour case at Shardawadi village in Sudhagad taluka of Raigad district has mounted up to 24, with two more people succumbing at the hospital while undergoing treatment.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, when villagers had gathered for a marriage party. The revellers consumed spurious liqour at the party and were taken ill soon after. The affected people were rushed to the hospital but six of them died on the same day.
Meanwhile, three people have been arrested in this connection, Palli police station sources told UNI.
The accused have been identified as Subhash Ganeshmal Oswal (58), Duttatraya Chandrakant Musle (48) and Vilas Chandrakant Musle (40).
The three have been remanded in police custody till February 5 by a local court.
The 24 victims include three women. Twenty-eight others are still recuperating in two different hospitals. Sixteen of them have been admitted to the Alibaug Civil Hospital, while the rest have been shifted to the J J Hospital here in Mumbai.
